Privacy policy
Effective date: October 30, 2026
1892 consulting provides technology and operational consulting to foundations and other grantmaking organizations. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, how we use it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. It applies to 1892consulting.com and to the newsletter you can sign up for here. It does not cover the information we handle for clients under a consulting engagement, which is governed by the agreement for that engagement.
Information you give us
You can use this website without telling us who you are. We collect personal information only when you choose to share it:
- Contact form: Your name, organization, email address, the topic you choose and your message. You can also tick a box to join our newsletter.
- Newsletter sign-up: Your name, organization and email address.
- Email: Anything you include when you write to us directly.
- Staffing tool: The grants management staffing tool on our resources page is an embedded form provided by Jotform. What you enter there is collected by Jotform on our behalf and is also covered by Jotform’s own privacy policy.
- Matrix tool: The Complexity-volume matrix tool on our resources page keeps what you enter in your own browser and sends nothing to us.
Information collected automatically
When you visit, our hosting provider records standard technical details such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of each request. We use these records to keep the site running, to protect it from abuse and to understand how it is used. Our form endpoints also keep a short log of each submission that records whether it succeeded and which fields were filled in, never what you typed.
How we use information
We use the information you give us to:
- reply to your message and follow up on it;
- send you the newsletter if you asked for it;
- keep a record of our correspondence with you;
- protect the site and our forms from spam and misuse;
- understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Services that process data on our behalf
A small number of service providers process information for us. Each one acts under our instructions and its own privacy terms:
- Cloudflare hosts the website, protects it from abuse and provides the spam check on our forms.
- Resend delivers the email that our contact form sends to us and the copy it sends to you.
- Mailchimp stores our newsletter list and sends each issue.
- Google Analytics measures how the site is used, with IP addresses shortened before they are stored.
- Jotform hosts the staffing tool described above.
These providers operate in the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Cookies and analytics
The site itself sets no cookies for tracking. Google Analytics sets cookies to tell repeat visits apart and to measure how pages are used; we have configured it to shorten IP addresses before they are stored. Cloudflare may set a cookie that supports its spam check and security features. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.
How long we keep information
We keep contact form messages and our replies for as long as we need them to handle your enquiry and to maintain a record of our correspondence. We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. We keep technical logs for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
Your choices and rights
Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time. You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local privacy law, and we will honor them. To make any of these requests, use the contact form linked below. We will respond within thirty days.
Children
This website is intended for professionals who work in or with grantmaking organizations. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has given us personal information, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the services we use change. The effective date at the top shows when it was last revised. Changes that matter will be noted on this page.
How to contact us
Use the contact form with any question about this policy or about the personal information we hold about you.
